Pirates Release Ross Ohlendorf

The Pittsburgh Pirates have released right handed pitcher Ross Ohlendorf, who was expected to be a non-tender candidate next week. Ohlendorf was coming off a horrible season, and has dealt with injury problems the last few years. He would have made a raise through arbitration over his 2011 salary had the Pirates kept him around. The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster, allowing the Pirates to make a Rule 5 pick.

Pirates Acquire Yamaico Navarro For Brooks Pounders

The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired infielder Yamaico Navarro from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for right handed pitcher Brooks Pounders and infielder Diego Goris. Earlier today we heard that the Pirates reached an agreement with Nate McLouth. The move was just made official, per a team press release. To clear space for McLouth on the 40-man roster, the Pirates have designated infielder Pedro Ciriaco for assignment. The Pirates have ten days to waive, trade, or release Ciriaco. If he clears waivers, they can outright him to AAA. McLouth will make $1.75 M on a one year deal.
