The Pittsburgh Pirates have released Xavier Paul after the outfielder cleared waivers.  The team couldn’t outright him to AAA since Paul has more than three years of major league service time. Pirates Offer Arbitration to Derrek Lee

The Pittsburgh Pirates have offered arbitration to free agent first baseman Derrek Lee, and have declined arbitration offers to catcher Chris Snyder and outfielder Ryan Ludwick. Fryer Clears Waivers, Jeroloman Claimed

The Pittsburgh Pirates designated Eric Fryer for assignment last week to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for their Rule 5 additions.  On the same day they claimed catcher Brian Jeroloman from the Toronto Blue Jays, who they designated for assignment to clear a spot for Clint Barmes.  Fryer cleared waivers today and was outrighted to AAA.  Jeroloman, on the other hand, was claimed by Toronto, returning to his old team.

Following up on the previous news that the Pittsburgh Pirates have signed Jake Fox and Shairon Martis, Baseball America’s transactions page adds that the Pirates have also signed Brandon Boggs and Stefan Welch.
