The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled right handed pitcher Ross Ohlendorf, and have designated left handed reliever Joe Beimel for assignment, per a team press release.  The Ohlendorf recall was expected, as he is scheduled to start tonight for the Pirates.  The Beimel move isn’t a big surprise, as he’s struggled with the Pirates this year when healthy, with a 5.33 ERA in 25.1 innings. Kevin Correia to the DL, Chris Leroux Recalled

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed right handed pitcher Kevin Correia on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique.  The move is retroactive to August 20th.  As a corresponding move, they have activated recalled right handed pitcher Chris Leroux from his rehab assignment in Indianapolis.  Leroux is at PNC Park and will be active for both games of tonight’s double header.

Pirates Sign Aaron Heilman to Minor League Deal

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed right handed pitcher Aaron Heilman to a minor league deal, according to Jenifer Langosch.  Heilman has a career 4.40 ERA in the majors, including a 6.88 ERA in 35.1 innings this year.  He will report to AAA, likely to provide depth for the Indians.  Indianapolis just saw Tim Wood traded to Texas, Tony Watson promoted to the majors, and Ross Ohlendorf is expected to be promoted for Tuesday’s...

The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled left handed pitcher Tony Watson, which is their corresponding move to placing Paul Maholm on the 15-day disabled list yesterday.  Watson was optioned to AAA on August 6th, but prior to that had a 2.73 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP in 26.1 innings in the majors.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed left handed pitcher Paul Maholm on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder strain.  The team will announce a corresponding roster move tomorrow.
