The Path to the Majors For Jameson Taillon and Casey Sadler

This morning the Pittsburgh Pirates cut six players from Major League camp, including three starting pitchers. Jameson Taillon, Casey Sadler, and Joely Rodriguez were all sent to the minors, which isn’t unexpected, as none of the three were projected to begin the season in Pittsburgh. “The starters that are in Major League camp, that we project to be starters in the minor leagues, they’re the ones that go out the...

First Look at Jen-Lei Liao, a 6′ 6″, 264 Pound Pitcher From Taiwan (Video)

The approach with Liao will be the same — improve his control, and get him to maximize his frame....

Pirates Trying to Work Some Familiar Magic on Daniel Schlereth

The Pittsburgh Pirates are in a good situation with their left-handed relievers in the majors. Tony Watson looked like one of the best relievers in baseball during the second half of the 2013 season. Justin Wilson put up a 2.08 ERA in his rookie season, although his 3.41 FIP suggests there might be some regression going forward. With that combo, the Pirates don’t have any questions about who will be their left-handers in the...

Clay Holmes Following the Nick Kingham Path

The Pittsburgh Pirates have plenty of top pitching prospects in their system. Gerrit Cole made the jump to the majors in 2013, and was looking like an ace by the end of the season. Jameson Taillon is expected to make that same jump in 2014. Tyler Glasnow broke onto the scene as a potential top of the rotation guy in 2013, and could be up as early as mid-2015, depending on how well he does with his command in the upper levels. Beyond...
