Pirates Interested in Aaron Cook

The Pittsburgh Pirates are one of six teams who have shown preliminary interest in right handed pitcher Aaron Cook, according to Bill Brink.  Cook has a career 4.53 ERA in over 1300 innings pitched in the majors.  He’s never been a guy who can strike out batters, with a career 3.8 K/9 ratio, including a 4.5 K/9 ratio in 2011. According to Jerry Crasnick, Ryan Doumit has signed a deal with the Minnesota Twins for $3 M plus undisclosed performance bonuses.  The move means that the Pirates will get a compensation pick in between the first and second rounds of the 2012 draft.

Pirates Looking at Rafael Furcal

Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated reports that the Pittsburgh Pirates are looking at Rafael Furcal and other shortstop options, although Heyman specified that Jose Reyes and Jimmy Rollins aren’t included in the other group.
