Ryan Doumit Signs With Twins

According to Jerry Crasnick, Ryan Doumit has signed a deal with the Minnesota Twins for $3 M plus undisclosed performance bonuses.  The move means that the Pirates will get a compensation pick in between the first and second rounds of the 2012 draft.

Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated reports that the Pittsburgh Pirates are looking at Rafael Furcal and other shortstop options, although Heyman specified that Jose Reyes and Jimmy Rollins aren’t included in the other group. Pirates May Discuss New Deal With Cedeno

The Pittsburgh Pirates might discuss a new deal with shortstop Ronny Cedeno, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of MLB Trade Rumors.  The Pirates declined Cedeno’s $3 M option, paying the $200 K buyout instead.  We’ve also heard that they’re looking at Ramon Santiago, so clearly the team is prioritizing defense at shortstop over added offensive production.
