Meek Activated, Moskos Optioned to AAA

The Pittsburgh Pirates have activated relief pitcher Evan Meek, and to create space on the 25-man roster, have optioned Daniel Moskos to Indianapolis.  Meek was placed on the disabled list at the end of April, with Moskos getting his first call to the majors to take Meek’s place at the time.  Moskos wasn’t used much, pitching 4.2 innings in five appearances in almost a month.  He allowed just one unearned run on two hits,...

VSL/ West Virginia Roster Updates

Since posting our VSL season preview the team has added four new players to their roster including three just this morning. Outfielder Edgard Munoz was added three days ago. He is a 19 year old switch hitter but he checks in at just 5″8 150 lbs so between the advanced starting age and size we didn’t make much mention of it besides the game notes in the daily minor league schedule post. This morning the team has added three...

Pedro Ciriaco Recalled

The Pittsburgh Pirates are set to recall shortstop Pedro Ciriaco, according to Jenifer Langosch.  It would be assumed that Ciriaco is getting recalled to replace someone going on the disabled list, and Langosch speculates that the someone in this case would be Pedro Alvarez. Pirates Activate Bryan Morris, Leroux to AAA

UPDATE 2:51 PM: First press release was a mistake.  Altoona sent a follow up saying Leroux was promoted to...

Pirates Release Scott Olsen

The Pittsburgh Pirates have released left handed pitcher Scott Olsen, according to Colin Dunlap.  The move isn’t really a surprise, as Olsen has been on the 60-day disabled list, and doesn’t really have a spot on the team when he returns. Olsen was signed on December 6th, the same day as Kevin Correia, to a one year, $450,000 deal.  The deal included an option for $4 M in 2012, with a $100,000 buyout.  I wasn’t a fan...

Pirates Release Tom Boleska, Activate Brian Leach

The Pittsburgh Pirates have released right handed reliever Tom Boleska, in order to make room in Altoona for right handed reliever Brian Leach, who is coming off the disabled list.  Boleska currently has a 5.40 ERA in 16.2 innings, with an 11:12 K/BB ratio.  Most of his struggles are recent, as he started the season with 10.2 shutout innings, before allowing 10 runs in six innings over his last four outings.  However, his strikeout...
