Mercer And Team USA Ready To Begin World Cup/Pan Am Tournament

Team USA will play their first game in the World Cup/Pan Am tournament on Sunday evening in Panama City, Panama.  The team features Pirates’ farmhand infielder Jordy Mercer, who split the 2011 season between the Altoona Curve and the Indianapolis Indians.  Also on Team USA is catcher Travis d’Arnaud, brother of Pirates’ Chase d’Arnaud.  Travis d’Arnaud played at the AA level in the Blue Jays’...

Instructs Day Three: Lots of Pitching

The Pittsburgh Pirates played two games today against the New York Yankees at Pirate City.  The games took place simultaneously, with Luis Heredia starting on one field, and Nick Kingham starting on the other.  Fortunately, Pirate City allows you to watch both games at the same time, so I got to watch both players, all while getting some video of each starter, which I posted earlier today. Heredia pitched one inning, working in the...

Luis Heredia and Nick Kingham Videos From Instructs

Afternoon Notes From Instructs 9/29

Morning practices are over, and the Pirates are about to play a game against the Phillies.  Some notes from this afternoon: -Yesterday I mentioned that Matt Curry and Eric Fryer were both getting time at third base.  Curry was just there in a sandlot type setting, due to the intersquad game.  Fryer, on the other hand, is getting time at third base to increase his versatility.  He was back at third base today during a batting practice...
