I’d hope so. The update was from John Kokales, who was covering the game last night.

Comment on First Mock Draft From Jonathan Mayo Has a Familiar Name For Pirates by CaptQT http://www.piratesprospects.com/2014/05/first-mock-draft-from-jonathan-mayo-has-a-familiar-name-for-pirates.html#comment-50429 Sat, 17 May 2014 14:22:00 +0000 http://www.piratesprospects.com/?p=78976#comment-50429 In a ballpark built for a left-handed power-hitter (and in an organization bereft of power from that side of the plate) I can’t understand the urgency some feel to jettison Pedro Alvarez.

Comment on First Mock Draft From Jonathan Mayo Has a Familiar Name For Pirates by Scott Kliesen http://www.piratesprospects.com/2014/05/first-mock-draft-from-jonathan-mayo-has-a-familiar-name-for-pirates.html#comment-50428 Sat, 17 May 2014 13:55:00 +0000 http://www.piratesprospects.com/?p=78976#comment-50428 Is your opinion of Pedro based on his uneven performance or your unmet expectations of his performance?

To me, he is a valuable piece for the Pirates. However, he should be batting 6th. Davis is better suited to hit 4th currently. Once Polanco arrives, the batting order should be:
1. Marte
2. Polanco
3. Cutch
4. Davis
5. Walker
6. Alvarez
7. Martin
8. Mercer

It may be time to hit LHPs as a LHB?

Comment on First Pitch: The Pirates Short and Long Term at Shortstop by impliedi http://www.piratesprospects.com/2014/05/first-pitch-the-pirates-short-and-long-term-at-shortstop.html#comment-50426 Sat, 17 May 2014 13:40:00 +0000 http://www.piratesprospects.com/?p=79033#comment-50426 Was just looking at that 1982 1st round….. Of course, Dwight Gooden was picked 2 picks ahead of Khalifa at number 5, Gooden was the only real gem of that 1982 draft. Some other pretty decent players were picked in that first round: Ron Karkovice (14), Spike Owen (6), Todd Worrell (21), and Duane Ward (9), a couple of guys who would have great short-term impacts on the Pirates (both good and bad): Shawon Dunston (1) and Bob Kipper (8), and 2 future mangers: John Russell (13) and Dale Sveum (25).

What amazes me is that Khalifa was a 1st round pick and Bixler was a 2nd round pick. Seems like you could find similar players in the 37th round.

Actually, gotta give credit to Bixler, he appeared in 183 major league games, which is exactly 183 more games than I ever will!!

Seems more like a second baseman to me.

I thought the first 3 innings his command was as shaky as the first 2 home starts of his I saw,but then he looked like a different pitcher after that. If Cunningham had made a play in that 2 run inning,he might have even got out of that, though his 2 BB helped load the bases. Kingham just doesn’t look as consistent with his command yet this season as he did when he came up last year.

I just remember that baseball prospectus didn’t seem to think he had the arm for it, but we’l see.

My ideal situation is that they revisit the Didi Gregorious talks and get him and have Hanson at 2b.
