WTM’S PLAYER PROFILE |
Perez got a moderate signing bonus, by Pirate standards. He’s an infielder with a line drive bat.
2015 Perez had a difficult first season, as he struggled severely at the plate and in the field. He played mostly short and committed 24 errors, leading to an unsightly .874 fielding percentage. His hitting did pick up as the season went along. After a dismal .314 OPS in June, he posted figures of .594 and .645 in July and August. 2016 Perez showed a lot of improvement in his second DSL season. He hit with a little pop and had solid BB and K rates. With Rodolfo Castro at short, Perez was the team’s primary third baseman, but he spent time at second and short. The error problem didn’t improve, but he seems to have good range. 2017 The Pirates moved Perez up to the GCL for 2017. He didn’t hit a great deal and showed no power. In the field, he spent time at second, third and first, in that order of frequency. He played very well at second but committed errors in a third of his chances at third. At this point, Perez seems likely to become a lower level organizational player. |
