The Pirates sent Pomeroy to pitch in relief for Bristol.  He came as advertised, striking out a lot of hitters but walking even more.  As a result, opponents had just a .191 batting average and .298 slugging average, but they had an OBP of .466.

Pomeroy had Tommy John surgery in April, leaving him out for the season.

The Pirates sent Pomeroy to Morgantown, where he made 15 relief appearances, most of them limited to one inning.  He struggled to throw strikes, walking a batter an inning.  A little surprisingly, the Pirates moved him up to West Virginia in August and he got into eight games there.  He did better there; his walk rate dropped only a little, but he allowed just two hits and struck out 36% of the batters he faced.

Pomeroy has remarkably little experience, having thrown just over 50 innings between his college career and his three pro seasons (one of which he of course missed).  His progress at West Virginia, though, hints at the potential he might have if he can start getting the ball over the plate with even passable frequency.
