Gausman was drafted out of high school by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the sixth round of the 2010 draft. He opted to go to LSU, and will be draft eligible again as a sophomore in 2012.

The right hander throws his fastball anywhere from 92-96 MPH, and due to his tall, projectable frame he could add some velocity in the future. His fastball has a lot of movement, with armside run and sink. His changeup is advanced, looking like the fastball coming out of his hand, and finishing with some fade and sink. He has the ability for three plus pitches in the future, also throwing a curveball and a slider.

Gausman has really improved his draft stock this year, thanks to a strong strikeout to walk rato, and a lack of home runs. At the start of the year he looked like a possibility for the Pirates, but now they would be lucky if he fell to them.

2010: Selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 6th round, 202nd overall.
Baseball America: #5 (4/11/2012)
Jonathan Mayo: #4 (5/1/2012)
Keith Law: #6 (4/10/2012)
