WTM’S PLAYER PROFILE

Trevillian isn’t as tall as most of the prep pitchers that the Pirates have drafted over the years, but he does have some projection in his frame, with the chance to add some velocity in the future.  He has hit 90 MPH, and sat in the mid-to-upper 80s at the time he was drafted.  At his best, he gets good movement and works down in the zone, while mixing in a low- to mid-70s big breaking curve.  Baseball America ranked Trevillian as the 25th best prospect in Virginia, but did not include him in their overall top 500.  He had a commitment to Liberty University, but signed shortly after the draft for the maximum slot amount, which is $100,000 for all picks after round 10.

2015-17
DNP

The Pirates assigned Trevillian to the GCL, but he never got into a game due to right forearm tightness from a muscle flexor. He was throwing by the end of the season, but had Tommy John surgery in December 2015.  He missed the entire 2016 season, then had a setback and was unable to pitch in 2017, either.

Hopefully, Trevillian will finally be able to pitch in 2018.
