WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES

Coursel was a reliever for Florida Atlantic, posting a 2.73 ERA and a 30:10 K/BB ratio in 33 innings during his senior year. He only pitched for Florida Atlantic for two years, after transferring from St. Pete College. His junior year didn’t go well, with a 6.00 ERA in 27 innings, and a 24:12 K/BB ratio. The Pirates drafted him as a college senior and he signed shortly after the draft.

2016
R+:  0-3-0, 4.26 ERA, 1.78 WHIP, 25.1 IP, 5.7 BB/9, 7.5 K/9

Pitching out of the bullpen in Bristol, Coursel struggled to keep runners off base; he allowed a .412 OBP to opposing hitters.  The ERA is a little misleading, as over a third of the runs he allowed were unearned.

Coursel will probably go to Morgantown or back to Bristol in 2017.
