The Pittsburgh Pirates have designated Akinori Iwamura for assignment, clearing room for Pedro Alvarez to be added to the 25-man roster.  Iwamura had a very disappointing season with the Pirates, hitting for a .182/.292/.267 line in 165 at-bats.  He was acquired in the off-season in exchange for Jesse Chavez, who coincidentally was optioned to AAA by the Atlanta Braves yesterday. Brian Burres sent down, Argenis Diaz recalled

According to Dejan Kovacevic, the Pittsburgh Pirates have sent Brian Burres down to Indianapolis, and have recalled infielder Argenis Diaz.  Diaz was recalled due to the lingering injury to Andy LaRoche, which will keep him out of the lineup for another game, and because of a minor injury to Bobby Crosby.  Without Diaz, the Pirates would have had a three man bench tonight, with one of those spots being the backup catcher....
