Pirates Release Four Minor League Pitchers

According to Baseball America, the Pittsburgh Pirates have released four minor league pitchers. Lefty pitcher Marcus Beltrez and right-handers Christian Santiago, Arquimedes Lorenzo and Ramon Rodriguez have all been released recently. All four were in Extended Spring Training. Pirates International Prospect Suspended

Arquimedes Lorenzo, a pitcher for the Dominican Summer League Pirates, was suspended for 50 games for violating the Minor League drug program, according to Jennifer Langosch.  Lorenzo signed in November 2009 for $90,000, and made his debut in the DSL in 2010.  He had a 6.56 ERA in 48 innings, with a 4.9 K/9 and a 5.6 BB/9 ratio.  The 6′ 2″, 187 pound right hander can touch 92 MPH with his fastball, with good command of the...
