Clay Holmes Labors In Third Start Of Pro Career

The State College Spikes lost 5-3 to the Batavia Muckdogs on Monday night, their first home defeat of the season. Starting pitcher Clay Holmes wasn’t as sharp as his previous two scoreless outings, and several sloppy plays cost the Spikes throughout the game. The Pittsburgh Pirates gave Clay Holmes a $1.2 M signing bonus to break his commitment to Auburn last year. The bonus was a record for a ninth round pick, and is tied for the biggest bonus in Pirates’ history outside of the third round.
