Catching up on some minor league transactions… -The Pittsburgh Pirates signed Travis Chick, a right handed pitcher who started the 2010 season in the Los Angeles Angels’ camp before being released and going to Independent ball.  Chick will play in Indianapolis, providing the Indians with pitching depth. -Derek Hankins has been promoted from AA to AAA.  Hankins had a 1.82 ERA this year in 79 innings, pitching mostly out of...

The Pittsburgh Pirates made two waves of cuts this morning, first cutting Pedro Alvarez, Jose Tabata, Doug Bernier, and Jonathan Van Every.  They followed that up by cutting Tyler Yates, Jimmy Barthmaier, Neal Cotts, and Craig Hansen. Joel Hanrahan Injured

Some bad news coming out of Spring Training this morning as Joel Hanrahan is reported to be out with a right flexor-pronator strain, and will visit Dr. James Andrews next week, a visit that is never good.  Chuck Finder has the following quote from Hanrahan: “It’s something that I kind of battled with in August and Septemeber,” months where he permitted opponents to hit a .162 average and crafted a 0.42 ERA....
