Pirates Officially Sign Scott Olsen

The Pittsburgh Pirates have officially signed left hander Scott Olsen, according to the team’s Twitter feed.  We learned yesterday that Olsen received a one year deal for $500,000, with up to $3 M in performance bonuses.  We also learned that the deal includes a club option for $4 M for the 2012 season.  No word on whether there is a buyout on that option, although it could be for $500,000, since the deal was originally reported...

Matt Diaz Contract Information

The Pittsburgh Pirates signed Matt Diaz to a two year deal last night, and today we learned that the deal is for $4.25 M, with no option years.  Still no word on the yearly breakdown, but my guess would be $2 M a year, and a $250 K signing bonus.  I’ll update this post when the yearly breakdowns are announced.  I project the Pirates’ payroll to be just under $37 M after the addition.
