Houston Astros Hire New Manager, Banister Stays in Pittsburgh

Published:

The Houston Astros have ended their search for a new manager quickly, announcing today that A.J. Hinch will fill the position. We heard a few days ago the Pittsburgh Pirates bench coach Jeff Banister, who has been in the organization for 29 years, was contacted by the Astros about the job opening. He has never managed in the majors before, while Hinch has managed parts of two seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Good news for the Pirates because it obviously means Banister isn’t going to Houston.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long.
