Jason Grilli Placed on the Disabled List

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed right-handed pitcher Jason Grilli on the 15-day disabled list, retro to April 21st, with a left oblique strain. Jared Hughes has been recalled from Indianapolis to replace Grilli on the roster. With Grilli on the disabled list, Mark Melancon should take over as the team’s closer. Grilli blew two saves over the weekend, and hasn’t pitched since the second blown save.

Wandy Rodriguez Placed on the Disabled List

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed left-handed pitcher Wandy Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list with right knee inflammation, and have recalled Jared Hughes from Triple-A. Considering the struggles from Rodriguez, it would be fair to speculate whether this injury is a phantom move, giving him a break.
