Born on this date in 1928 was Don Hoak, third baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1959 until 1962. He spent seven seasons in the minors for the Dodgers before he got his first shot at the big leagues in 1954 then ended up spending the next 11 seasons in the majors without another trip back to the minors until he took a manager job for the Pirates after his playing days.
