Team USA Takes Silver, Canada Wins Gold

Canada 2,  USA  1 Team Canada won the Pan Am tournament Gold Medal this evening with a win over the US.  It was a tight game, with scoring in only two innings.  Canada posted 7 hits, while the US had 6, and neither team committed an error. Team USA Advances To Pan-Am Gold Medal Game

USA 12,  Cuba 10 Team USA advances to the Gold Medal competition in the Pan Am games tomorrow with a win today over the Cuban team.  That means that Cuba will not go on to play for the Gold Medal — for the first time in over 60 years– and the first time since 1967 that Cuba will not come out of the tournament with the Gold. USA  11,  Panama  0 US starter Drew Smyly (Tigers) pitched 6 shutout innings to earn the win over Panama in the Pan Am tournament on Friday afternoon.  Smyly allowed just 4 hits and one walk, while striking out 4 batters.  Reliever Matt Shoemaker (Angels) pitched the 7th inning, also scoreless, and allowed one hit and one walk.
