SCOUTING REPORT
|
The Pirates will eventually have to replace Pedro Alvarez at third base, whether that’s when he leaves via free agency, or if he eventually needs to move to first base. Bryant wouldn’t be bad as a potential replacement. Jonathan Mayo calls him the best power college bat in the draft, and Baseball America says he has tremendous power potential. There are questions of whether he can stick at third for the long-term. He’s got a plus arm, but some feel he might have to move to right field or first base in the future. He’s also dealt with strikeouts, which combined with the power, the arm, and the possibility to move off third base, kind of makes him like a Pedro Alvarez-lite. The Pirates are weak at third base in their minor league system, so Bryant wouldn’t have anyone pushing him off the position. |
