Pirates Cut Four Pitching Prospects

The Pittsburgh Pirates made four cuts today, all of them pitching prospects.  The Pirates optioned Bryan Morris and Kyle McPherson to the minors, and cut Rudy Owens and Justin Wilson.  Morris was optioned to AAA, which means he might not return to Altoona like I thought.  McPherson was optioned to A-ball.  He will open the 2011 season in Bradenton.  No word yet on the assignments for Owens or Wilson. Pirates Add Five, DFA Duke, LaRoche, Delwyn

The Pittsburgh Pirates have added five players to the 40-man roster to protect them from the upcoming Rule 5 draft, and designated Zach Duke, Andy LaRoche, and Delwyn Young for assignment.  The five players added were Jeff Locke, Daniel Moskos, Tony Watson, Kyle McPherson, and as reported here earlier, Michael Crotta.
