Bucs deal Lopez to Giants, Dotel to Dodgers

The Pirates traded reliever Javier Lopez to the Giants today for first baseman John Bowker and right-handed pitcher Joe Martinez. Both players will be assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis. The Bucs also dealt closer Octavio Dotel to the Dodgers for right-handed pitcher James McDonald and outfield prospect Andrew Lambo. The Pirates are paying Los Angeles $500,000. McDonald will join the major league team and Lambo will head to Double-A Altoona.

The Pittsburgh Pirates made two moves before the deadline, sending Javier Lopez to the San Francisco Giants, and Octavio Dotel to the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Despite a lot of rumors, Paul Maholm remained with the team through the deadline. Paul Maholm Trade Deadline Rumors

Yesterday it was reported that three teams were in contact with the Pittsburgh Pirates on starting pitcher Paul Maholm.  Those three teams were the San Diego Padres, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the New York Mets.
