Starling Marte to begin rehab assignment

Pirates prospect Starling Marte will begin a rehab assignment this weekend with the organization’s Gulf Coast League affiliate in Bradenton. He should return to High-A Bradenton in about a week. Marte has been out since May after undergoing surgery for a broken hamate bone.

Some notes from the weekend… -The big news was that the Pirates finally promoted Bryan Morris to Altoona.  In eight starts this season, Morris put up a 0.60 ERA in 44.2 innings, with an 8.1 K/9 a 5.7 K/BB, and no homers allowed.  Morris didn’t allow an earned run in his last 33 innings in Bradenton.
