The Pirates have claimed right-handed pitchers Chris Resop and Chan Ho Park off waivers in an attempt to bolster a depleted bullpen. Steven Jackson was designated for assignment and Steve Pearce was placed on the 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster.
Steve Pearce, out for several days due to patella tendinitis in his left knee, will receive a plasma-rich platelet injection in hopes of avoiding surgery. He will be out of action until at least August. Surgery remains a possibility.
While Jose Tabata is certainly having an encouraging year at Indy, a .786 OPS at Triple-A should not be considered big numbers. He is hitting .316, but it is mostly empty batting average. Many fans expect him to be called up to Pittsburgh within a few weeks and inject some offense into the Pirates lineup. I just don’t see that happening.
Apparently, 93.7 The Fan reported this morning that Neil Walker has been recalled from Triple-A, and that Steve Pearce would likely be placed on the DL with a sprained ankle. I haven’t seen this reported anywhere else, so take it with a grain of salt for now. it may have just been speculation.
