Catchers Hitting in Winter Leagues; Hernandez’s 8th Save

More action than usual for a Monday in winter league play:

Dominican League (playoffs)
Tigres del Licey 5, Aguilas Cibaenas 2
All the excitement happened in the 2nd inning, and former Pirate CRonny Paulino was the hero for Licey. Another former Pirate, Jose Bautista, led off with a walk, and two singles loaded the bases. After a strikeout and a foul pop out, another single scored Bautista, again leaving the bases loaded. Then Paulino cleared the bases with a 3-RBI double, giving Licey the lead.

Mexican Pacific League
Yaquis de Obregon 6, Naranjeros de Hermosillo 2
SS Luis Cruzdoubled to lead off the 7th inning for Obregon, then moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI single, giving Obregon the tying run. Another run, on a fielding error and a single, gave Obregon the lead. In the 8th, Cruz hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded, bringing in another run. Obregon scored two more insurance runs on a walk, a hit batter, and two wild pitches.

Venezuelan League
Cardinales de Lara 4, Tigres de Aragua 1
C Raul Chavez singled in the 4th and the 6th innings for Aragua. In the 4th, he was left stranded at the end of the inning; in the 6th, he was forced out at second on a subsequent play. He also threw out the only Lara runner who tried to steal second base.

Aguilas de Zulia 4, Bravos de Margarita 2
RF Jonel Pacheco hit a solo homer in the 6th inning for Margarita, which tied the game at that point. Zulia came back to score two runs in the bottom of the 6th. Margarita players committed 4 errors in the game, including one by Pacheco. Chris Hernandez earned his 8th save with a perfect 9th inning, including a strikeout.

Luis Cruz hadn't appeared in a game for Obregon in 10 days, and I'd thought he'd finished his winter ball stint.
