Game 31: Wainwright Beats Bucs

Published:

Adam Wainwright is a buzzsaw. The Pirates offense is balsam wood.

Wainwright allowed just five hits and two walks over six solid innings. He allowed two runs and struck out seven.

The St. Louis offense was loudly efficient against Paul Maholm and Brian Bass. The Cards scored 11 times and collected 11 hits. Four hits came in a four run third. They managed to parlay two errors, a walk and a stolen base into two runs in the next frame. In the sixth they collected five hits and five runs.

Maholm got 10 outs and gave up six runs (four earned). Bass got seven outs and gave up five runs.

Wainwright won. Maholm lost.

The Good
Holding Pujols in check – just 2-11 with one run scored and no RBI over the weekend.

The Bad
Dropping two of three when the club easily could’ve won two of three.

More errors and unearned runs.

The Rest
Wainwright is now 6-2 versus Pittsburgh in his career.

Maholm’s career mark against St. Louis falls to 3-4.

Yadi Molina had six RBIs in the series.

Garrett Jones had a hit and two RBI. He has hit safely in 8 of his last 10 games and pulled his average up over 30 points.
