Curve Pound Rock Cats; Power Shut Out

Published:

Lakewood Blue Claws 5, West Virginia Power 0 (box)

The Power were held to just 4 hits in the game, all by the top three batters in the line-up. Both CF Evan Chambers and SS Jarek Cunningham singled to begin the bottom of the 1st, but after two outs, the inning ended when Chambers was picked off third base. Cunningham doubled and RF David Rubinstein singled to open the bottom of the 4th, but Rubinstein was caught stealing and Cunningham was again left on base. The only batter to reach base over the last 5 innings of the game was 1B Aaron Baker, who walked in the 7th inning but was left stranded.

The Power were not stellar in the field tonight either, as they committed 4 errors. Starter Jason Erickson pitched 5 scoreless innings, and scattered 3 hits and 2 walks over those innings. He also worked around 2 of the 4 Power errors. Maurice Bankston relieved Erickson to begin the 6th inning. He gave up one run in that inning on a single, a ground out, and a sacrifice fly. Bankston also gave up a run in the 8th, on a single and an RBI double. Mike Williams came on to pitch the 9th, and he could not overcome the other two Power errors. A fielding error by 3B Elevys Gonzalez put the first runner on base. A throwing error by 1B Baker complicated a single, moving two runners into scoring position. A sacrifice fly brought in one run, and a triple plated the second run — both unearned. Another sacrifice fly allowed the runner who had tripled to score from third base (earned).
