Morton Looks Good, As Does Owens

Indians  2,  Yankees  1
The Indianapolis Indians beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees in Tampa this afternoon, extending their spring training winning streak to 4 games.  The Tribe pitchers allowed just one unearned run, which came in the 5th inning on a double and an error.  Starter Rudy Owens scattered 3 hits, no walks, over his 4 scoreless innings.  Mike Dubee pitched one perfect innings with a pair of strikeouts.  Daniel Moskos pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.  As often happens in minor league spring training games, the Yankees had one player who hit in each inning, in an effort to get in a lot of at-bats.  Today, that batter was OF Andruw Jones.  He hit second in each inning, and the Indians pitchers retired him all 9 times.

The Indians were also held scoreless until the 7th inning, when INF Jim Negrych tied the score with his RBI single.  1B Christian Colonel scored the go-ahead run in the 8th inning, when he singled for the second time, then scored on a Yankees’ error.
