Minor League Schedule: 5/14/11

Jameson Taillon pitched 4 innings last night coming out after a very long inning on offense for West Virginia which likely led to an early departure although his pitch limit was nearing. He now has a 1.80 ERA in 15 innings with 14 K’s and a 1.00 WHIP. Lineups for today’s games will be posted as soon as they are made available.

AAA: Indianapolis (13-23) VS Columbus (25-10) 7:05pm

McPherson has allowed just 1 walk in 42.2 IP

Probable starter: Garrett Olson (1-0 3.09)

Game notes: Brad Lincoln pitched 7 strong innings last night giving up 2 earned runs on 6 hits with 4 K’s to get his 3rd win. Matt Hague went 3-5 with 3 RBI’s,he now has 23 runs driven in on the year. Chase d’Arnaud went 3-4 with a triple and 3 RBI’s. Andrew Lambo went 2-4 raising his average to .230.

AA: Altoona (17-16) VS Erie (15-18) 5:30pm
Probable starter: Michael Colla (1-1 3.52)

Game notes: Starling Marte went 3-4 with a walk,2 runs scored,his 10th stolen base and he now leads the Eastern League with 45 hits. Tony Sanchez went 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI’s. Jeremy Farrell went 2-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s. Brock Holt went 2-4 with a walk. Tim Alderson pitched a scoreless inning lowering his ERA to 0.98.

High-A: Bradenton (16-19) VS Clearwater (23-12) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Kyle McPherson (2-1 2.74)

Game notes: Nate Baker pitched 6 innings last night giving up 4 runs on 6 hits with 4 K’s and 8 groundball outs. Elevys Gonzalez went 3-4 with a double, stolen base and he raised his average to .350 on the year. He is currently tied for 4th in the FSL in batting. Jarek Cunningham went 1-3 with a double and drove in his 24th run.

Low-A: West Virginia (15-17) VS Kannapolis (21-12) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Brandon Cumpton (2-3 8.51)

Game notes: Jameson Taillon went 4 innings last night giving up one run on 4 hits with 3 strikeouts and 6 groundball outs. Tyler Waldron returned from a 2 1/2 week absence to pitch 2 scoreless innings. Zac Fuesser pitches 2 scoreless innings with 3 K’s lowering his ERA to 1.27. Mel Rojas Jr went 2-4 with 3 stolen bases, he now has 9 steals on the year.

John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
