Minor League Schedule: 6/14/11

West Virginia plays a doubleheader today with Jameson Taillon getting his 10th career start and Brooks Pounders making his first start of the season. Lineups for today’s games will be posted as soon as they are made available.

Pounders gets his first start of the year

AAA: Indianapolis (33-33) VS Gwinnett (34-30) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Garrett Olson (1-0 2.04)

Game notes: Brad Lincoln pitched 6 strong innings allowing just one run on 5 hits, 2 walks and he struck out four but took the loss. Indy collected just 6 hits in their 2-0 loss last night and only one extra base hit. Corey Wimberly went 2-2 with a walk and a double. Gorkys Hernandez went 1-3 with a stolen base.

AA: Altoona (31-31) VS New Britain (33-28) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Bryan Morris (1-2 3.69)

Game notes: Altoona was off yesterday. The resume their schedule today with a three game series at home versus New Britain. Altoona currently sits in 3rd place, 3.5 games back of the division leaders Harrisburg

High-A: Bradenton (27-37) @ Charlotte (27-36) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Quinton Miller (4-5 6.34)

Game notes: Nate Baker lasted just 1.1 IP last night as he gave up 4 runs with only one earned due to Jarek Cunningham’s 16th error. Calvin Anderson hit his 10th homerun and Evan Chambers added his 3rd homer. Aaron Baker and Elevys Gonzalez each had two hits.

Low-A: West Virginia (31-31) @ Greensboro (29-33) 5:30pm DH
Probable starter: Jameson Taillon (2-1 3.32) and Brooks Pounders (5-0 2.45)

Game notes: Tyler Waldron pitched 4 innings giving up 5 runs on 6 hits and took his 3rd loss. Victor Black pitched a scoreless inning and Orlando Castro made his debut in the states throwing three scoreless innings. He had previously pitched just one season in the VSL. The Power collected just one hit, a single by Mel Rojas Jr. and a walk by Andrew Maggi was the only other baserunner.

VSL: VSL Pirates (14-9) VS VSL Rays (12-11) 11:00am

Games notes: Luis Rico, a 17 year old lefty, got his 2nd start but lasted just 1.1 IP giving up one run. Julio Vivas, a 17 year old righty, followed him with one run in 3.1 IP. Jose Salazar went 2-4 with an RBI. Ulises Montilla drove in his 21st run. Edgard Munoz went 1-4 and stole his 10th base.

DSL: DSL Pirates (9-3) VS DSL Astros (5-6) 10:30am 6/15

Game notes: Clario Perez made his 3rd start allowing 2 ER in 5 IP. Christian Henriquez got the win pitching 2 IP and extending his streak to 7.2 IP without an earned run to start his career. Diego Goris went 2-5 with 2 RBI’s and a SB. Edwin Espinal drew 2 walks and now has a .926 OPS.

John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
