Minor League Schedule: 7/2/11

For an in depth review of yesterday’s games please check out our minor league wrap-up which can be found here. The GCL game was rained out. It will be made up this morning as part of a doubleheader consisting of two 7 inning games. The DSL team has off today and resumes their schedule on Sunday.

Wilson allowed four runs in six innings in his last start.

AAA: Indianapolis (42-41) @ Toledo (33-50) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Justin Wilson (9-5 3.98)

Justin Wilson gets his 16 start today as he looks for his 10th win of the season trying to become the first pitcher in the IL to double digits in victories. Wilson has 64 strikeouts on the year, eight behind the team leader Brad Lincoln. In his start on Monday, Justin went 6 innings giving up 4 runs on 4 hits, three walks and five strikeouts.

AA: Altoona (35-44) @ Trenton (47-33) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Michael Colla (4-4 3.25)

Michael Colla will be making his 13 start of the season tonight. As a starter (he has 5 relief appearances) he has a 3-4 3.15 record while holding runners to a .212 BAA. In his last start he pitched 6.2 innings giving up 2 earned runs and striking out a season high of seven batters. His previous start on June 21st he went a season high 7 innings allowing just one run.

High-A: Bradenton (37-42 overall 7-2 2nd half) VS St Lucie ( 42-35 overall 4-3 2nd half) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Quinton Miller (5-6 6.51)

Bradenton currently sits in 1st place for the 2nd half title. St Lucie won the first half title and has already clinched a playoff spot

Low-A: West Virginia (40-37 overall 5-4 2nd half) VS Greensboro ( 44-45 overall 4-5 2nd half) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Zac Fuesser (2-2 1.98)

Zac Fuesser is making his 4th start of the season tonight. He has made 15 relief appearances and has pitched 50 innings total this year. He has allowed 44 hits, walked 16 and struck out 46 while giving up just two home runs. In his last start on Monday he pitched 5 scoreless innings allowing just one hit, no walks and he struck out four.

Short Season A: State College (4-11) VS Auburn (8-7) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Nick Kingham (0-2 4.15)

Kingham is making his fourth start of the season. He has improved his results with each start so far. After allowing 5 runs in 3 innings his first start he followed that with just one run in five innings. His last start on Monday he threw five scoreless innings. His 13 innings and 13 strikeouts both lead the team.

Rookie: GCL Pirates (5-5) VS GCL Blue Jays (4-6) 10:00am DH

VSL: VSL Pirates (24-16) VS VSL Tigers (13-26) 10:00am

DSL: DSL Pirates (17-10) VS DSL Astros (9-15) 10:30am 7/3

*Quinton Miller has been activated from the DL and will make the start tonight for Bradenton in place of Brett Sinkbeil. The schedule has been updated to include Miller’s pitching line

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
