Rob Biertempfel and Jenifer Langosch are both reporting that Pedro Ciriaco is packing his bags in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ locker room, which means a move is expected. That will most likely be the return of Ronny Cedeno, who is currently rehabbing in AAA. Cedeno was pulled from today’s game in Indianapolis in extra innings, after going 0-for-5. In his rehab work, he’s 4-for-15 with a double and a triple. Nothing official yet, although I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear of a lot of moves over the next 24 hours, with Cedeno, Steve Pearce, and possibly Pedro Alvarez, looking like they’re ready to return.
UPDATE: Biertempfel also mentions that the Pirates could have four new players on Friday, adding Steve Pearce, Jason Grilli, and Jason Jaramillo to the list. We know that Grilli is on the way, and I mentioned earlier today that Jaramillo could return as the backup catcher. As for Pearce, I’m hearing it could be Josh Harrison that is sent down to make room for his return.
Tim started Pirates Prospects in 2009 from his home in Virginia, which was 40 minutes from where Pedro Alvarez made his pro debut in Lynchburg. That year, the Lynchburg Hillcats won the Carolina League championship, and Pirates Prospects was born from Tim's reporting along the way. The site has grown over the years to include many more writers, and Tim has gone on to become a credentialed MLB reporter, producing Pirates Prospects each year, and will publish his 11th Prospect Guide this offseason. He has also served as the Pittsburgh Pirates correspondent for Baseball America since 2019. Behind the scenes, Tim is an avid music lover, and most of the money he gets paid to run this site goes to vinyl records.
When can we send down d’Arnaud, he obviously isn’t ready for the bigs and is making a ton of errors. If he was hitting I could forgive the E’s but….he isn’t.
I’d like to see them wait on moves till they get the majority of these pieces back in place and see where they are at.
I’d agree. It would be good to see what a Pedro return to 3b, a platoon of Jones/Pearce at 1st, and Tabata/Pressley/Cutch outfield would generate…

Tabata was shut down again after experiencing tightness in his injured quad (per Root sportscast this afternoon). This injury is going to linger for a few more weeks.
