Minor League Schedule: 8/10/11

The deciding game will be played today. Altoona was rained out yesterday. They will play a doubleheader today consisting of two seven inning games. The DSL Pirates have off today.

Owens looks for his 10th win of the year tonight

AAA: Indianapolis (61-57) @ Columbus (74-43) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Rudy Owens (9-7 5.05)

Rudy will get his 22nd start tonight. He is tied with Justin Wilson for the team lead in wins and his 112.1 innings pitched trails the team leader, Wilson, by just 2.2 IP. In his last start on Friday night Owens lasted just 2.2 innings allowing 5 runs on eight hits. He has allowed a career high 32 walks this season, nine more than last year when he threw a total of 150 innings.

AA: Altoona (50-63) @ New Britian (56-58) 4:35pm DH
Probable starter: Jeff Locke (6-8 4.22) and Michael Colla (4-8 3.81)

Jeff has made 21 starts and one relief appearance this year. He is the Altoona team leader in strikeouts with 108 and his 119.1 innings pitched is just behind team leader Aaron Pribanic. In his 4 starts since the all-star break Jeff has a 1-0 2.52 record over 25 innings pitched. He allowed one run over 7 innings on Wednesday night. Colla threw 5 shutout innings in his last start.

High-A: Bradenton (58-57 overall 28-17 2nd half) @ Ft Myers (52-63 overall 18-27 2nd half) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Jhonathan Ramos (4-3 3.23)

Ramos will make his 6th start tonight. He started the season by pitching his first 22 games in relief. As a starter this year he has a 4-0 3.29 record. He has pitched 75 total innings this season allowing 20 walks and 48 strikeouts. He got the win in his last start on Friday night despite allowing 8 runs, 6 of them earned.

Low-A: West Virginia (54-58 overall 19-25 2nd half) VS Charleston (44-70 overall 18-26 2nd half) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Zac Fuesser (3-4 3.00)

Zac will get his 11th start of the year tonight, he has also made 15 relief appearances. As a starter he has a 1-3 3.83 record in 54 innings with 43 strikeouts. In his last start on Thursday night he allowed just one run over 7 innings. He faced Charleston in back to back starts in July and gave up just one run over 7 innings on the 18th but followed that with seven earned runs over just 4 innings six days later.

Short Season A: State College (21-31) VS Aberdeen (18-33) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Nick Kingham (2-2 2.80)

Kingham will make his 11th start of the season tonight. He already has 8 starts in which he has allowed just one run or threw a shutout. The last three earned runs he has allowed were all off solo home runs. Nick has allowed 10 walks this year but seven of them have come in just two of his appearances. In 24 innings at home he has given up one walk and recorded 22 strikeouts.

Rookie: GCL Pirates (25-19) VS GCL Braves (17-25) 12:00pm

The GCL Pirates are currently in 2nd place, 3.5 games back in the standings.

VSL: VSL Pirates (40-32) VS VSL Rays (38-33) 11:00am

The VSL Pirates have finished their season and will play game three of the VSL playoffs today, the winner will take the league title.

DSL: DSL Pirates (37-21) VS DSL Astros (21-34) 10:30am 8/11

The DSL Pirates are in 2nd place, 2.5 games back of the DSL Royals who they play two more times this year. Their season ends on August 19th.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long.
