According to Jim Callis, the Pirates have signed 9th round pick Clay Holmes. Callis mentions that the asking price for Holmes was $1.2 M, and he's believed to have gotten it. That would be a record for a 9th round pick, and is equal to what Zack Von Rosenberg got in the 6th round in 2009, if the bonus is correct.
We knew that Holmes was close to signing. I mentioned late last week that the two sides were meeting to discuss signing, and a deal seemed optimistic. We heard last night that Holmes was in Pittsburgh, which indicated that a deal was close.
The draft pick signing tracker has been updated with the move.
