Published:

Starling Marte was named the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of August, the league announced this afternoon.  This comes after Marte hit for a .393 average in 117 at-bats, along with nine doubles, three triples, and five homers.  He led the league in average, runs scored, hits, extra-base hits, total bases, slugging percentage, and OPS during the month of August.  He also reached base safely in 26 of his 28 games, with 13 multi-hit games.

The month of August helped Marte cap off a banner year.  He finished with 178 hits, which is a new Altoona franchise record.  He also became the only active Curve player to win the Eastern League batting title, hitting for a .332 average.
