Winter Leagues 10/18 – Hits For Hague

Pirates’ players and friends in action in the Winter Leagues on Tuesday:

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Tigres de Aragua  2,  Bravos de Margarita  1

Former Pirate LF Lastings Milledge singled and scored in Aragua’s 2-run 6th inning.  He also singled and stole second base in the 4th.  Los Tigres’ outfield was all former Pirates’ farmhands  —  CF Jonel Pacheco singled in 3 trips to the plate, and RF Jorge Cortes went 0-for-3.

 

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

Toros del Este  9,  Tigres del Licey  4

3B Matt Hague singled and doubled, scored once, and drove in a run for Los Toros, who posted a total of 13 hits.  Los Toros scored 2 runs in each of the 1st, 2nd, 7th, and 9th innings, plus one more in the 4th.  Hague pushed in one of the runs in the 7th with an infield single to third base and a missed catch error (no RBI).  Then he hit the second of two doubles in the 9th, for a (real) RBI.

 

Leones del Escogido  5,  Gigantes del Cibao  3

Los Leones scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning on a single, a walk, a throwing error, and a passed ball.  Three more runs came across the plate in the 4th.  With runners on second and third and two outs, CF Starling Marte walked to load the bases, then another walk forced in a run.  Marte and another runner scored on a 2-RBI double, giving Los Leones a 5-0 lead.  Andy Marte came into the game as a late-inning defensive replacement at third base.  Los Gigantes picked up one run in the bottom of the 4th and 2 more in the 6th.  Former Pirate C Robinzon Diaz was 0-for-2 for Los Gigantes.  Another former Pirate, reliever Juan Perez, pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the 7th for Los Gigantes.
