Day Three of Spring Training

Published:

Good morning from Pirate City.

–The Pirates have two meetings this morning, so they have yet to take the field. They should start warming up around 10:20.

— Today’s scheduled bullpen sessions:

Group 1: James McDonald, Joel Hanrahan, Brad Lincoln, Erik Bedard

Group 2: Tony Watson, Jason Grilli, Ryota Igarashi, Juan Cruz

Group 3: Chris Resop, Evan Meek, Shairon Martis, Jo-Jo Reyes

Group 4: Doug Slaten, Daniel McCutchen, Chris Leroux, Daniel Cabrera

–I chatted with outfielder Nate McLouth and infielder Casey McGehee this morning, so look for those stories later today on the main page. I’m going to try to get stories on most of the guys at big league camp, but if there is someone in particular you want to hear from now, rather than later, let me know in the comment section.

Here’s about a 20 second video of both Hanrahan and Bedard throwing a bullpen earlier today.

— I didn’t get a chance to catch Meek’s bullpen session today. I’m hoping to catch up with him tomorrow and see what he worked on this offseason. He’s looking trimmer from last year.

— Pitchers worked on fielding and throws to first base this afternoon. They also worked on bunting.

— Despite position players not having to report until Thursday, most of the club is at Pirate City. They took BP and worked on fielding drills as well.

— Josh Harrison, who could battle for an utility role with the club, saw some time at second base today. His versatility at third, second and short could be an asset for the Pirates. Both Nick Evans and Matt Hague saw time at first base.
