First Pitch: Notebooks and Live Chats

Published:

Last week I put a survey up on the site asking for some input on what content you like on Pirates Prospects, and what content you would like to see in the future. If you haven’t taken the survey yet, there’s still time. Based on the results of the survey, I’ve added two features to the site.

The first will be nightly notebooks. This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while, but never settled on a format. Each night I will upload a Prospect Notebook, detailing the daily events from Pirate City. Kristy Robinson will have a Pirates Notebook, with all of the latest news and info from major league camp. The first ones went up tonight.

We will also have weekly chats, lasting one hour each. I will hold a chat every Monday at 2 PM, live from Pirate City. Kristy will hold a chat every Wednesday at 2 PM, usually from McKechnie Field. You will be able to submit questions as early as 8 AM the day of the chat. The first chat will take place tomorrow afternoon.

Links and Notes

**The Pirates lost 4-3 to the Rays in a game that featured a lineup which looks like the potential opening day lineup. The loss did include three good innings from Kevin Correia and a home run from Pedro Alvarez. Here is Kristy’s recap from the game.

**I’ve seen a lot of improvements in Jason Townsend’s pitching since he joined the system in 2010. He went from a guy who had a 97 MPH fastball and little control to a guy who has a 92-95 MPH fastball with improved control and a lot of movement. The transformation took about one year. I talked with him the other day after his first live batting practice about these changes and his upcoming season. Here is the feature.

**I’ll have more details on the site tomorrow, but I’m starting a fantasy baseball league for readers of Pirates Prospects. There’s no limit on the amount of teams that can compete. Each team has $200 to spend on a roster of eight position players, a designated hitter, four starting pitchers, and one relief pitcher. It is free to join the league, and the winner will most likely get a 2013 Pirates Prospects Combo pack. The game is on Facebook, and you can join here.

**The Draft Prospect Trackers are updated for the weekend. It was a big week for Florida catcher Mike Zunino. He had two, two homer games, giving him three on the season. He’s now hitting for a .407/.462/.864 line on the season.
