Minor League Schedule: 6/3/12

Gerrit Cole will get the start today for Bradenton. He was recently named to the Florida State League All-Star team along with Jameson Taillon. Both Bradenton and Altoona played doubleheaders yesterday. The Dominican Summer League schedule started yesterday, although both teams are off today. Cole ranks tied for 2nd in the FSL with a 1.04 WHIP

Triple-A: Indianapolis (32-23) VS Syracuse (26-29) 1:15pm
Probable starter: Daniel Cabrera (1-1 3.82)

Yesterday’s Result: Indianapolis 7 Syracuse 3 (Jeff Clement hits for a cycle)

Daniel Cabrera will make his seventh start for Indianapolis, he also made one start for Bradenton. In his last start, Daniel went 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks. Prior to that, he went at least six innings in each of his last four starts. On the year, Cabrera has pitched a total of 39 innings, allowing 44 hits, 11 walks and he’s recorded 25 strikeouts.

Brandon Cumpton will get his 11th start of the year tonight. He has pitched a total of 61.1 innings, allowing 54 hits, 16 walks and five homers, to go along with 35 strikeouts. In his last start on 5/29, Brandon allowed one run on three hits and three walks in seven innings. It was the fourth time this year he has pitched at least seven innings in a game. Cumpton has a .243 BAA and a 2.00 GO/AO ratio.

Gerrit Cole will make his 11th start of the year tonight. He has pitched a total of 51 innings, allowing 38 hits, 15 walks and he has 50 strikeouts. In his last outing, Cole went six innings, giving up one earned run on six hit, with two walks and four hits. He has held batters to a .208 average this year, with left-handed batters hitting .190 with 24 strikeouts.

Probable starter: Robbie Rowland (1-1 3.27)

Robbie Rowland will make his third start of the season. He has also made one relief appearance. In his first start on 5/23, Robbie went four innings, allowing one earned run on four hits. In his last outing on 5/29, he allowed two runs on four hits over six innings of work. He has pitched a total of 11 innings without issuing a home run or walk this year

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
