Rudy Owens goes for Indianapolis tonight, opposed on the mound by longtime Pirates starter Zach Duke, who has a 6-2 3.97 record for Syracuse this season. Altoona is off today. They resume their schedule tomorrow night in Reading for a three game series, the start of a six game road trip. Both DSL teams were off yesterday. Owens has allowed three or fewer runs in each of his last nine starts

Rudy Owens will make his 11th start of the season tonight. He has pitched a 66.2 innings, allowing 55 hits, eight homers, seven walks and he has struck out 49 batters. In his last start, Rudy gave up one run(solo homer) in 6.2 innings, with a season high of seven strikeouts. Of the eight homers that Owens has allowed this year, seven have been solo homers. He is holding batters to a .224 average and his 0.93 WHIP is the best in the International League. Rudy’s 2.30 ERA ranks second in the league to teammate Jo-Jo Reyes.

Altoona is off today. They begin a six game road trip tomorrow in Reading. The Curve currently sit in fourth place in their division, eight games back of the Akron Aeros. They have an 8-17 record on the road this year and in their last ten games, Altoona has a 5-5 record.

Tyler Waldron will make his tenth start of the year today, he also made two relief appearances earlier in the year. He has pitched a total of 56.2 innings, giving up 63 hits, 10 walks, four homers and he has 43 strikeouts. In his last start, Tyler went seven innings, allowing three runs(two earned) on eight hits, with one walk and he recorded a season high of eight strikeouts. On the road this year, he is 1-1 4.20 in 15 innings.

Probable starter:  Matt Benedict (3-3 2.90)

Matt Benedict will make his 12th start of the season tonight. He has pitched a total of 62 innings this year, allowing 56 hits, 15 walks and he has 38 strikeouts. In his last start on 5/30, Matt went six innings, allowing two runs on four hits, no walks and he had three strikeouts. At home this year, he has made seven starts, going 2-2 3.76 in 40.2 innings. Benedict is first on the team among starters in both WHIP(1.15) and ERA.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
