Pirates Announce Signings of Eight from Draft

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced signings of eight players from the 2012 draft on Wednesday afternoon. Those players include:

 

6th round pick Eric Wood, an infielder out of Blinn (TX) College will report to GCL Pirates. Wood hit .326 with 13 doubles, five home runs and 44 RBI this year.

7th round pick Jake Stallings, a catcher out of the University of North Carolina will report to State College. Stallings hit  .297 (62-for-209) with 21 doubles, four home runs, 36 RBI and 41 runs scored in 55 games as a senior this year.

10th round pick Pat Ludwig, a right-hand pitcher out of Yale University will report to State College. Ludwig led the team in strikeouts (64), ERA (2.73), and innings pitched (62.2).

12th round pick Dalton Friend, a left-hand pitcher out of Jefferson College will report to State College. Friend went 11-0 with one save, a 2.94 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 46.0 innings this year

13th round pick Thomas Harlan, a left-handed pitcher out of Fresno State will report to State College. Harlan went 7-7 with one save, a 2.78 ERA (106.2ip/33er) and 85 strikeouts in 21 games (16 appearances) as a senior this year.

20th round pick Kyle Haynes, a right-handed pitcher out of VCU will report to State College. Haynes posted a career record of 13-14 with a 4.34 ERA in 43 games (41 starts) during his three-year career.

23rd round pick Lance Breedlove, a right-handed pitcher out of Purdue will report to State College. Breedlove went 8-6 with a 3.33 ERA (97.1ip/36er) in 16 starts as a senior this year.

25th round pick Josh Smith, a left-handed pitcher out of Wichita State will report to State College. Smith went 6-4 with a 3.10 ERA (95.2ip/33er) and 77 strikeouts in 16 starts as a senior this year.
