AAA: INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS

Box Score

Result: Indianapolis 4, Gwinnett 1

Starting Pitcher: Gerrit Cole, RHP (2-1, 2.31) – 7.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 0 HR

Top Hitter: Matt Hague, 1B (.313) – 3-for-4, 2 2B

Other Notable Performers:

Jordy Mercer, SS (.337) – 2-for-4

Jose Contreras, RHP (4.50) – 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 0 HR

Vic Black, RHP (2.70) – 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 0 HR

Game Notes: Gerrit Cole had his best start of the season, although it wasn’t perfect. It was the first of five starts this year that he made it through seven innings, and the second time he made it beyond four innings. He still had control problems, which mostly showed up later in the game. Cole threw 97 pitches with 57 strikes. Jose Contreras came on for a rehab appearance and struck out the side. Contreras is on pace to join the Pirates on May 3rd. Vic Black added another scoreless inning as the Indianapolis closer, striking out two.

AA: ALTOONA CURVE

Box Score

Result:  Erie 3, Altoona 1

Starting Pitcher: Jameson Taillon, RHP (2-2, 3.03) – 5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 0 HR

Top Hitter: Oscar Tejeda, 3B (.600) – 3-for-4, 2B

Other Notable Performers:

Carlos Paulino, C (.204) – 2-for-3, RBI

Game Notes: In Jameson Taillon’s last two starts he has given up eight earned runs in 11.2 innings of work. Tonight’s outing was much better than his last start, as he struck out seven and only gave up three runs in a little less than six innings. That’s a bit of a change from his first six starts at the Double-A level, where he was posting dominant numbers almost every outing. Tonight was the first game of the season (22 games total) that Andrew Lambo didn’t reach base safely. He went 0-for-4, snapping an 11 game hitting streak.

A+: BRADENTON MARAUDERS

Box Score

Result:  St Lucie 13, Bradenton 5

Starting Pitcher: Robby Rowland, RHP (4.76) – 4.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 0 HR

Top Hitter: Gregory Polanco, CF (.346) – 2-for-5, HR

Other Notable Performers:

Dan Gamache, DH (.287) – 2-for-5, 2B

Willy Garcia, RF (.222) – 2-for-5, 3B

Alen Hanson, SS (.268) – 1-for-3, 2 BB

Game Notes: The Marauders didn’t have a good night from their pitching staff. Robby Rowland had a rough start, and Quinton Miller added five more runs, with only one of those earned due to a Chris Lashmet error. Gregory Polanco hit his second homer of the year. He’s hitting for a good average and getting on base, but the power hasn’t been as big as last season. Dan Gamache added his fifth double of the year.

A: WEST VIRGINIA POWER

Box Score

Result:  Savannah 1, West Virginia 0

Starting Pitcher: Orlando Castro, LHP (2-2, 1.67) – 6.2 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 0 HR

Top Hitter: D.J. Crumlich, 3B (.235) – 2-for-3

Other Notable Performers:

Barrett Barnes, CF (.182) – 1-for-3

Jason Creasy, RHP (5.06) – 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 0 HR

Game Notes: Castro has given up just five earned runs this season in 27 innings with West Virginia. He has a 22:1 K/BB ratio in that span. Jason Creasy’s numbers have been elevated this season largely because of a four earned run outing on April 10th where he didn’t record an out. Outside of that outing he has a 2.81 ERA and a 13:3 K/BB ratio in 16 innings. Josh Bell went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, while Stetson Allie went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.
