In Indianapolis this afternoon, Francisco Liriano will make what is scheduled to be his last rehab appearance before joining the Pirates next week. West Virginia had off yesterday. AAA: Indianapolis (21-9) @ Lehigh Valley (12-16) 1:35pm
Probable starter: Francisco Liriano (2-0, 1.64)
Yesterday’s Result: Lehigh Valley 3, Indianapolis 2 in 13 innings

Francisco Liriano will make his fifth minor league start as he wraps up his rehab assignment. This will be his third start with Indianapolis, following one start with Altoona and Bradenton. On 4/25, Liriano faced Lehigh Valley at home, giving up one run over five innings, with no walks and eight strikeouts. In his last outing, he went six innings, allowing one run on four hits, with no walks and nine strikeouts. In 16.2 total innings, Liriano has 27 strikeouts, a 2.14 GO/AO ratio and a .200 BAA, while allowing just three walks.

AA: Altoona (11-18) @ Erie (16-11) 1:35pm
Probable starter: David Bromberg (0-3, 6.19)
Yesterday’s Result: Erie 4, Altoona 3

David Bromberg will get his third start of the season today. He has also made three relief appearances. In 16 total innings, he has given up 20 hits, two homers and five walks, while picking up 16 strikeouts. In his last start on 4/30, he went six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits. Bromberg pitched one inning against Erie on 4/26, allowing one run on one hit, no walks and one strikeout. He has a .328 BAA.

High-A: Bradenton (11-18) @ Dunedin (17-11) 5:00pm

Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton 7, Palm Beach 3 (game one) Palm Beach 8, Bradenton 2 (game two)

Zack Dodson has been activated for today’s game and will make his 2013 debut. He missed the beginning of the season, serving out the rest of his 50 game suspension from last year. Adrian Sampson will make his sixth start of the season tomorrow. In 22.2 innings, he has allowed 28 hits, two homers and eight walks, while striking out 15 batters. He has made four of his starts at home this season, with his only road start being his best game of the year. At St Lucie on 4/25, he allowed one run over 4.2 innings. Sampson has had significant trouble against left-handed batters this year, allowing them to hit .379, while posting a 0.17 GO/AO ratio.

Low-A: West Virginia (12-16) VS Greenville (10-18) 5:05pm
Probable starter: John Kuchno (0-1, 5.14)
Yesterday’s Result:  West Virginia was off yesterday

John Kuchno will make his sixth start of the season today. In his last outing, he went 4.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits and four walks. His longest outing this season was five innings on 4/17, when he threw shutout ball, giving up just two hits and no walks against this same Greenville team he’s facing today. Kuchno has made each of his last four starts on the road. In 21 innings, he has allowed 23 hits and 15 walks, while posting a 1.30 GO/AO ratio, a .288 BAA and he has 15 strikeouts.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long.
