The Pirates have made the following minor league pitching moves, most likely as a chain reaction to the Duke Welker promotion.
**Tim Alderson has been promoted from Altoona to Indianapolis. Alderson has been with Indianapolis once already this year, and gave up one run in 3.2 innings of work. In his time with Altoona he had a 1.32 ERA in 13.2 innings, with a 17:2 K/BB ratio.
**Quinton Miller has been promoted from Bradenton to Altoona. Miller had a 3.77 ERA and an 18:5 K/BB ratio in 14.1 innings working out of the Bradenton bullpen.
Tim started Pirates Prospects in 2009 from his home in Virginia, which was 40 minutes from where Pedro Alvarez made his pro debut in Lynchburg. That year, the Lynchburg Hillcats won the Carolina League championship, and Pirates Prospects was born from Tim's reporting along the way. The site has grown over the years to include many more writers, and Tim has gone on to become a credentialed MLB reporter, producing Pirates Prospects each year, and will publish his 11th Prospect Guide this offseason. He has also served as the Pittsburgh Pirates correspondent for Baseball America since 2019. Behind the scenes, Tim is an avid music lover, and most of the money he gets paid to run this site goes to vinyl records.
I DON’T have high hopes for Alderson.
Miller may be salvageable.
And agree with Lambo should go to Indy.
Has Miller earned the promotion or is it a move out of necessity? I had hopes for the kid, but thus far he has been disappointing to say the least. Hopefully Alderson sticks at AAA. And Lambo should get to join him soon.
He had a rough start to the season, but he’s looked good out of the bullpen ever since.
