P3 Episode 16: What Would the Pirates’ Playoff Rotation Look Like?

Published:

Pirates Prospects PodcastEpisode 16 of The Pirates Prospects Podcast can be downloaded or streamed below. This episode includes analysis from Nate Barnes (@NateBarnes_TPN), James Santelli (@JamesSantelli) and myself (@timwilliamsP2) on the Pirates. Highlights of the show include:

**Last week James and Nate predicted the Pirates would go 5-1 against the Rockies and Marlins. The Pirates did go 5-1 in those games. We reviewed those games, and where the Pirates are in the standings.

**The Cardinals have suffered a lot of injuries, including Yadier Molina. They have also struggled a lot in the last few weeks. We talk about whether that’s going to hurt the Cardinals in the long-term, and give the Pirates an advantage.

**The Pirates have their first two starters in a playoff series in Francisco Liriano and A.J. Burnett. The list of pitchers after that raises a lot of question marks. James wrote about the playoff roster earlier this week, and we talked about who could be the number three starter in the playoff rotation.

**Jeff Locke has started to regress, and Nate wrote about his regression this week. We talked about how Locke will still be good enough to be an option for the playoff rotation.

**Gerrit Cole probably won’t be one of the four starters in the playoff rotation, but he could be a great reliever for the Pirates down the stretch.

**We talked about the Alex Rios trade, with Nate mentioning that he hates Rios. We talk about the waiver trading process.

**We preview the upcoming games on the road against the Rockies and the Cardinals. Nate and James predict 3-3, while I go 4-2. We recorded this before the Pirates lost game one to the Rockies.
