Today’s version of the Prospect Highlights takes a look at video of Gregory Polanco and Alen Hanson, two of the top hitting prospects in the system, along with Chris Dickerson, who continues his hot stretch in Triple-A. Also, some rare video from West Virginia.
The first video is of Polanco, who is a regular feature in this series of articles, legging out a triple.
Then there’s Chris Dickerson, who also tripled, continuing his impressive season. Dickerson has an .856 OPS this year, and could be a candidate for a call-up at some point during the season.
Alen Hanson has started off slow the first two weeks of the season for the past two years. Last year his bat woke up after that slow start. It looks like he could be doing the same this year, as he has a .286 average and a .785 OPS since around the second week of the season. Below is a video of him hitting his second homer of the year on Sunday afternoon.
There isn’t usually video from West Virginia, since those games aren’t usually televised. Today we have a clip of Reese McGuire getting a single. It’s not the biggest highlight, but it’s great to see something more than Indianapolis and Altoona in this spot.
Tim started Pirates Prospects in 2009 from his home in Virginia, which was 40 minutes from where Pedro Alvarez made his pro debut in Lynchburg. That year, the Lynchburg Hillcats won the Carolina League championship, and Pirates Prospects was born from Tim's reporting along the way. The site has grown over the years to include many more writers, and Tim has gone on to become a credentialed MLB reporter, producing Pirates Prospects each year, and will publish his 11th Prospect Guide this offseason. He has also served as the Pittsburgh Pirates correspondent for Baseball America since 2019. Behind the scenes, Tim is an avid music lover, and most of the money he gets paid to run this site goes to vinyl records.
